Guthrie ‘Wild’ Gruner Veltliner 2019
Hugh Guthrie is making some very smart wines from the Adelaide Hills, with a minimal intervention approach he is giving some fresh perspective with interesting results. The Wild Gruner is part of his range of ‘concept’ wines which aim to push certain varieties to their limits and exploring the full range of flavours and textures that can be created with creative winemaking. It’s is a very interesting look at the Austrian variety Gruner Veltliner – It takes the classic varietal notes of floral tones and white pepper to the next level. Lees contact has been used to add grip and texture in this often neutral variety and this is a very successful example of just that.
